To Frame or not to Frame that is the question?

Updated: Aug 23, 2020

I have been working on framing some of my 12” x 12” finished wood panel boards this week. Getting them ready for a side walk sale event at Gallery 233 Lake Geneva, WI. But, it’s always a tricky decision to either frame or not frame artwork. Deciding on the style of frame and the colour takes a bit of courage. The frame has a strong impact on the look and feel of the artwork and I don't want to make the wrong decision about the style or the colour.

It's the same mindset when I'm painting. I’m making decisions all the time about colour, about materials, about tools. What choice of mark making for a particular painting will enhance the feeling of movement? What saturation of colour will be just right to create the mood? Sometimes when I'm in a certain flow stage of the process of creating, I'm making decisions quickly and at other times I making decisions in a more thoughtful and deliberate way.

Right now it's an easy decision, I need to paint some of my wood frames. But wait, what colour?
